从此之后，大理寺正式变成负责复核案件、平反冤狱的司法机关。明代的「三法司会审」制度也进一步完善：唐朝的御史台变成了都察院，刑部、都察院主要负责初审案件，大理寺主要负责复审案件。十分重大复杂的案件，则在三法司的基础上会同六部尚书与通政使司共同会审，谓之「圆审」，也称「九卿会审」。
